Description

This cabaret is a series of short performances that centres Indigenous Joy. This is a showcase of diverse Indigenous brilliance! Indigenous artists from different nations will share their unique performances on a night that celebrates and makes space for Indigenous Joy! Let’s build up the spirits and smiles of our communities. Understanding that Indigenous Joy is resistance. This is community capacity building through proactive activism! Our culture, art, and happiness is crucial to our resistance, and our survival. Let’s take this opportunity to smile together and share space.

Indigenous resistance is most often associated with responding to painful and traumatic events. Whether it’s land defenders protecting our Mother from the claws of industry, mourning the return of our children, or lighting candles while we cradle our MMIWG2S - the violence and destruction of canada, and it’s ongoing settler-colonialism project runs deep. Though these gatherings are crucial, glimmer with love, hold space for grief, and allow us to be together and to hold each other, they are painful. Let’s additionally create space for celebration. Let’s build community strength through love, laughter, and creativity.

Indigenous Joy is resistance.
