Our Stories, Our Voices, Our Ways

Lodgepole Centre

Fort Calgary

June 21 – October 2, 2022

Curated by AJ Kluck, Morgan Black, and Stephanie One Spot

This exhibition is at Fort Calgary in Calgary, AB.

Storytelling is how we share our experience of the world with others. No one else can tell our stories as reliably as we can. Our Stories, Our Voices, Our Ways is an opportunity for those residing in or visiting Mohkinstsis to experience Indigenous storytelling through the visual arts that emphasizes diversity, inclusivity, and agency. We hope to create an experience of openness and exploration that upends the conventions of the Western gallery by transforming Fort Calgary through colour, texture, and narrative.

We have been telling stories since time immemorial. Storytelling is how we share our experience of the world with others, and no one else can tell our stories as reliably as we can. The Lodgepole Centre at Alberta University of the Arts brings together Indigenous artists for a visual arts exhibition. Our Stories, Our Voices, Our Ways is an opportunity for Indigenous artists to share their story. An opportunity to honour the knowledge and brilliance given to us by the land and by our ancestors.  We hope to create a future that emphasizes love, care, connection. A celebration of us and all that we do.

We are sovereign. We are connected. We are proud.
